Human rights at the forefront
The Independence Party wants to see Reykjavik as a world leader as regards human rights. An urban environment will be created where everybody can pursue happiness on their own terms, based on freedom, equality and human rights.
We want Reykjavik to work towards the goals of the Rainbow Map and become the world’s most LGBTI‑friendly city. We support maintaining the rainbow flag painted on Skólavörðustígur.
We shall prioritise improving UPA services in Reykjavik to guarantee the right to independent living. We must safeguard the rights of disabled people to safety and human dignity.
We want to provide immigrants and children of foreign origin with the teaching and services they need – not least Icelandic tuition and assistance with social integration.
