XD candidates in Reykjavik
Bjarni Eggerts Gudjónsson
Bjarni Guðjónsson is a business analyst and head of corporate affairs at VÍS.
I grew up in Akranes where I almost never took off my sneakers and, among other things, ran in them with information about votes between the sports hall on Vesturgata and the Independence Party office, having been raised in a very political family.
I was an ambitious football boy who had to grow up early. I had become a professional at 18, but then I moved alone to Newcastle, England, and lived and worked abroad as a professional for almost 10 years. I also played for all of Iceland's national football teams and have 23 senior caps, captaining the junior national teams and 4 senior national caps.
I came home to Iceland in 2006, wanted to further my education and studied business administration at Reykjavík University, where I graduated with a BSc in 2010.
After graduating, I worked as operations manager at Ellingsen, as sales manager at Oddi, in the fisheries team at VÍS, and most recently as director of corporate sales at VÍS.
Since I hung up my boots, I have always been involved in football and have taken on almost every job. Besides working as a player, I have been a coach, assistant coach and also the general manager of KR.
Today, I still undertake projects on television as an expert on both English and Icelandic football.
I have three children, two boys and one girl, but my youngest boy is a promising KR player and my older boy plays in the Besta deildar with Víkingur. I also have a daughter who is 24 years old, she was also involved in football in her younger years.
I am an outspoken competitor who tells things like they are and I am running for the Reykjavík City Council.
I am an old soul who loves meeting and talking to all kinds of people and believe that my experience from sports and business will be useful to me in my work as a city councilor.
I am tired of seeing how public money has been spent on whims and pet projects in Reykjavík. We are elected by the citizens, for the citizens, and out of respect for them, we need to ensure that the city is run with their needs in mind. Instead of pet projects that affect a few and cost money, we prioritize what really matters to the citizens in their daily lives, every single day.
