Finance

The Independence Party would like to see an overhaul of how Reykjavik is run. The administrative system has become a colossus – we need to reduce the overall structure, halt the mounting of debt, and show prudence when managing residents’ money. The Independence Party knows that, in order to provide high‑quality basic services, the city’s finances must be sound.

We intend to reduce the overall structure of the administrative system, halt the mounting of debt, and streamline the city’s operations.

We believe that that Reykjavik should reduce competitive operations.

We intend to reduce tax on commercial real estate and continue to work towards lowering taxes as soon as conditions allow.

We shall push for new legislation to reduce the number of city councillors from 23 to 15.

We intend to streamline operations by simplifying systems and making use of e‑government solutions.
